Lisbeth Movin, who played the dominant leading part in Day of Wrath (1943), died on 7 November – 94 years old.

The part of Anne Pedersdotter was her fourth role in a film and became a major breakthrough for the actress. In all, Lisbeth Movin acted in more than 40 films throughout her career. According to Danish critic Morten Piil, “All of her performances are viewed through the prism of one single part – namely that of her unforgettable Anne in Carl Th. Dreyer’s 17th century drama Day of Wrath (1943), one of the few indisputable masterpieces in the history of Danish film.”

Lisbeth Movin’s career in film came to an end in 1987 with her participation in Gabriel Axel’s Academy Award-winning Babette’s Feast, which in fact stood out for featuring no less than seven ‘Dreyer actors’ among its cast. It should be noted, though, that Lisbeth Movin appeared again in Torben Skjødt Jensen’s documentary film “Carl Th. Dreyer – My Métier”, in which she talks about her part in Day of Wrath and working with Dreyer.
